Chief of
Police Biography-
John P. Colella has been in Law Enforcement since 1990, after graduating
from the Police Academy held at Cayuga Community College, in Auburn,
New York. John worked for the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office
in the capacity of a Road Patrol Deputy for four years and was nominated
“Officer of the Year” two times. John transferred to the
Village of Clyde Police Department where he spent seven years. John
rose through the ranks from Patrolman to Criminal investigator. John
then transferred to the Macedon Police Department in 2003. John was
promoted to the rank of Sergeant / Investigator in 2004, and was promoted
to the position of Chief of Police on June 12th, 2008. Chief Colella
holds an Associate’s Degree from Cayuga Community College, in
Auburn, New York, and is actively pursuing completion of his bachelor’s
degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Chief Colella resides in
Macedon with his wife, Rachel Colella, a Deputy with the Wayne County
Sheriff’s Office, and his son, Dustin.
Chief Colella was the founding supervisor of the Wayne County Narcotics
Enforcement Team, and was instrumental in several large scale narcotics
investigations which disrupted organized narcotics dealers who were
distributing marijuana from Canada to multiple states along the
east coast. In the two years that Chief Colella supervised the unit,
they seized in excess of $530,000 dollars, over 250 pounds of marijuana,
over one kilogram of cocaine, and multiple weapons. Chief Colella
is dedicated to the preservation of Wayne Net, and continues to
participate in investigations and field operations. Chief Colella
also conducted a large scale "Psychedelic” mushroom investigation
in the Town of Macedon which resulted in the arrest of several individuals
and the seizure of home-made laboratory equipment, which later ended
up in the United States DEA Museum in Washington, D.C...
Chief Colella has extensive training in Narcotics, Computer Crimes,
Incident Command System, Acute Stress Management, Terrorism Response,
Financial Investigations, Criminal Investigations, Money Laundering
investigations, Missing and Abducted Children, and was nominated
and attended the United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s
Drug Unit Commanders Academy No. 58, in Quantico, Virginia, in February
of 2007.
