On November
17th the Town of Macedon Police Department was one of only eight Law
Enforcement Agencies honored at a luncheon in Albany for their commitment
and dedication to Highway Traffic Safety. The award of Recognition
for Excellence was presented to the Macedon Police on behalf of the
Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC), NYS Division of
Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Mothers Against Drunk Driving MADD)
and STOP-DWI New York. Chief John Colella accepted the award on behalf
of his department, and was accompanied by Officer William Powell,
Deputy Town Supervisor Paul Kenyon, and NYS Assemblyman Bob Oaks.
Chief Colella stated, “It was a pleasant surprise to receive
such a prestigious award. The members of our department work hard
daily to insure that the residents of our community, and others who
visit or travel through our community, do so on safe roadways. This
award is a true honor to our staff, but most importantly it is our
tribute to the many victims injured or killed by drink drivers. Our
agency will continue to aggressively enforce traffic laws in our community,
coupled with community outreach and educational opportunities in our
school districts”. The department was awarded a beautiful curved
etched glass plaque which is currently on display at the Clerk’s
Office desk in the Town Hall at 32 Main Street.
The Town of Macedon Police will be conducting additional patrols and
checkpoints during the upcoming holidays.
